29 weeks: doctor's visit

We had our one week follow-up appointment yesterday afternoon. After a scare of early arrival by the little ones, we had our minds some what put at ease. Dr. Reed did a pelvic examine to check my cervix (it was a prep for the future fisting and hurt like hell). My cervix is softening but is not dilated and instead of the confidence of lasting to 38 weeks, now my doctor is hoping we can make it to 36 weeks where survival rate is 90% with little NICU time. She reassured us everything was okay.

This was not reassuring:
"Many studies have been done to identify markers for premature cervical ripening and dilation. Cook and Ellwood[5] found an increase in preterm delivery with cervical length reduction at 24 to 28 weeks' gestation."

Besides that, as of right now, a C-section would occur due to baby a (boy) being breech but that still has time to change. Results from the ultrasound now show baby a (boy) is in the 30 percentile and baby b (girl) is 60 percentile. 50 percentile is average, of course this is comparing against singleton pregnancies... The doctor said they are doing well but we are going to keep an eye on the little man to make sure everything is going well. His heart rate was 140 and hers was 136.

Only doctor's vocalized concern is the fact I have not gained weight and to monitor to make sure I do not loose any weight. Eat ice cream and protein shakes for extra calories. Also we can do both c-section and other surgery at same time if I choose to. Woohoo double recovery from 2 surgeries while taking care of 2 kids. Isn't that special.

Anyways we are scheduled for an ultrasound and doctor appointment on February 7th. and breast feeding class is on the 5th.

okay must rest...
